Jillian and Adam had an AMAZING break in the humidity of August. Right in between heat wave 2 and 20 was their wedding day, celebrated at the New Haven Lawn Club.
Her earrings glimmered in the sun from the Penthouse windows that morning amidst the hair spray, warm chocolate chip cookies, and bubbling mimosas. The Study at Yale housed the beginning of an elegant wedding story. Unbeknownst to passerby’s seven stories below, the penthouse was crafting something so much greater than the every day. In the air was a sense of excitement, a hush between breaths, a pause between conversations…and not in the sad, somber kind of way, but in the way a child peeks around the banister on Christmas morning peering into the living room. Her mother helped her into her dress, her sisters helped fasten on those fancy shoes, and Jillian gazed out the windows across New Haven.
Perhaps if she could see through the brick facades she would see Adam, an adorable bundle of nerves, tying on his tie, and buttoning his vest, waiting patiently as his friend folded each and every pocket square his mother had handmade for his groomsmen. Just maybe she would see him looking out the window in his suite as I took portraits of his dapper self. She definitely would see his smile grow as he began to talk of heading to the church to see his bride.
These two found themselves holding hands at the altar of St. Joseph’s Church, speaking to each other with THE most important words they will ever say in their lives. With family and friends in agreement they said “I do” and walked out of that church as Mr. and Mrs.
Jillian and Adam had an elegant wedding at one of our favorite venues, the New Haven Lawn Club. (Fun fact, Kay got married here! If you’ve heard that already you’ll hear it again and again.) This venue doesn’t just top our list because it pulls from the archives of nostalgia or remind us of a day so filled with fun and family, but because it continues to become a meaningful place to our couples time and time again. The Lawn Club takes such wonderful care of our brides, just as they should be taken care of. This place hasn’t let us down yet!
We took full advantage of the beautiful greenery outside for some gorgeous pictures of the bride and groom. Among the vines and low swinging branches we stepped back and hid. As we photographed them, they cozied up to each other in what seems to have been the most comfortable place they found all day.
The first song that came off that stage made Grandpa jump out of his seat to dance. Naturally everyone followed suit, because if Gramps can do it, you can too! I’m so excited to share these photos with you so you can ooh and ahh through Jillian and Adams wedding story just like I did that day.
Shout out to the vendors who made this affair a completely elegant wedding!
