Oh Devan and Mike, your day could not have been more perfect. The rain held off for the ceremony, you guys stunned with that silhouette at sundown, and the party went way into the night. It’s wedding days like this we come home from and say “I could do this forever”. You two were wonderful to work with, and we’ve known that to be true since your engagement shoot. We had such a great day!
We started with Devan and her ladies at their hotel, making sure to capture some photos of the details of the day. The guys were a floor up getting ready, folding pocket squares, and tying ties, while the ladies got ready downstairs and made sure Devan looked beautiful in her dress.
We headed over to The Waterview in Monroe, CT, where we haven’t been in quite a while, so it was a joy to come back. The staff there is so wonderful and made our day so easy as they helped the bride and groom with every small detail. The ceremony happened outside on the patio which is why I was particularly happy it didn’t rain! The guests cheered as Mike came down the aisle and the two of them couldn’t stop smiling and laughing as they exchanged vows. That might have had something to do with Mike’s being pulled out on a crumpled blue index card, haha.
The bridal party were just as fun to get to know and hang out with as Mike and Devan, so getting these “formals” was super simple. They smiled, they laughed, they supported their best friends on the start of their new life together. Not to mention Devan did amazing picking out a color palate that was accentuated in the gardens of The Waterview. Even the whole family matched! We loved the moms dresses, they were so glamorous 🙂
Then…it was our FAVORITE part of the whole day. The bridal formals. Just Mike and Devan, taking a moment to not only take in the grounds they got married on, but also to enjoy their first hour of marriage. It can fly by so fast. It can seem like your wedding day is all about making sure everything comes together perfect, your hair and makeup look flawless, or that your guests are having a good time. I know this, I was there once! So as your photographers, we let you have time to yourselves. It’s not about us, the photos, the guests, the details…it’s about the emotions of “we’re MARRIED!” which is such a special moment that you’ll never get back, so enjoy it.
Mike and Devan fell into all their poses so naturally after having gotten all the nerves out during their engagement shoot and we just followed them, because they were so cute, being in love and all <3 I mean seriously, that mid-walking kiss…totally unpromted and I LOVE it.
Also, wasn’t that sunset amazing? Seriously redeemed our whole 2017 thus far. We’ve been staring at clouds for the past six months, but to finally have one that was this stunning…was something I am thankful for. Especially since our couple is a fan of clouds and weather, as they let us know on the way out to shoot them!
Everything from there on was party timeeeeee. The first dance, the toasts, the gorgeous details, the cake cutting…everything that Mike and Devan planned into their evening went off without a hitch. It’s a favorite part of the day for me, these “rituals” that show so much more about the couple. For example the best man giving a shout-out to grandmas cooking, or how Mike knew not to put cake on Devan’s nose…no matter how much the crowd asked 😉
The rest of the evening was filled with fun and dancing. When guests weren’t visiting our photo booth they were filling the dance floor to the DJ’s great music. Parent dances were adorable (as always) but my favorite thing was the way Devan and her dad ended their first dance with “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” which resulted in a cheer from the crowd.
These little personable things were infused in the whole day, helping us who didn’t know the bride and groom as well, feel like we had a glimpse into their lives. I love learning about couples, becoming friends with them, and staying in contact. Mike and Devan, you two are no different. We’re so thankful you let us into your lives for the day and hope you love this sneak peek! There’s many more where this came from 😉
Love,
Kay & Amy
